This technique sounds simple and has many positive benefits.
When I was in school, my classes were 50 minutes and I had 10 minutes to get to my next class. I want you to get in the habit of stopping what you're doing and stand up at 50 minutes after each hour. I've created a website for this at SuccessAlarm.com There are health benefits to standing for 10 minutes each hour. If you don't stand you reduce your life by 2 years and 7 years of your life can be in bad health, according to research Once you get this habit in place you can add additional habits on top of it. You may need a standup desk or a laptop to do some of these. Some of the ones I use are:
This is a partial list. You should make a list of things you could do during this 10-minute break. This is definitely one of those (Small Change BIG RESULT (SCBR)) tasks. Your first focus is to make this a habit. Once the habit is consistent, then focus on the items or your own ideas to do during this break. One strong recommendation I'd make is to not use this time to play a game, go to Facebook or Twitter, read the news as these tasks can get out of hand. You want to use this time for things that will bring you success. Also, doing a task like this can make it hard to get back to what you're working on. Don't make exceptions to standing. It's very easy to ignore or delay and before you know it you're back to your old unhealthy ways of doing things. |
